An introduction to children’s human rights and an exploration of identity using photography and mixed media.
Four primary schools in Lewis and one in Harris participated. The project was limited to one day with one class (mostly P7 but some composite P5-7) in each school. A photographer toured the schools in advance to take a head and shoulders photo of each pupil. The A4 photos were mounted onto A3 board. The day started with a whole class rights workshop. Each pupil then used the photo as a basis to create a 3-D portrait of what they wanted to be when they grew up.
An exhibition of all 97 portraits was held in An Lanntair Arts Centre, Stornoway to which all families and communities were invited.
