Positive mental health, and the language, skills and relationships to manage and bounce back from adversity is a basis for a good childhood.
Members of Children’s Parliament (MCPs) have been working to create a new resource to support adults and children learn about and build positive mental health and wellbeing, all through the lens of childrens human rights. The result is the Feelings Inspectors programme that adults – professionals and parents – and children can use together to build understanding, knowledge, relationships and tools for good mental health.
Make learning about mental, emotional and physical wellbeing a regular part of timetabled classes. Listen to children’s experiences and feelings through regular check-ins, talking about feelings and learning how to manage emotions. It should be like this for all children, not just when a great teacher thinks it is a good approach.
