Big news for Children’s Parliament!

This is a landmark day for us at Children’s Parliament as our co-founder and Director, Cathy McCulloch, has announced she will leave us in May 2025.

Anyone who knows Cathy will recognise her lifelong commitment to ensuring children are seen, heard and acknowledged as valuable and equal citizens in our homes, schools and communities. For the majority of this time, Cathy worked with co-founder Dr Colin Morrison to realise children’s dream of a “children’s parliament; a place where children are taken seriously and where we can talk about things that are important to us, not just to adults”. This realisation has developed into an internationally respected children’s human rights organisation driving critical culture change across Scotland and beyond.

From the early days, when the mention of ‘children’s rights’ would see doors firmly shut, Cathy’s has been a consistent voice in support of the development of an infrastructure that supports the human rights of children. Recognising the potential of childhood as a critical time to intervene in the lives of children and families to ensure long term positive outcomes, Cathy and Colin remained committed to working with children in ‘middle childhood’, understanding that if children’s human rights are realised at this formative time in a child’s life, outcomes for children’s health, happiness and protection would be more likely to be realised.

While we are sad that Cathy will be leaving us next year, it creates a unique opportunity to lead Children’s Parliament, as we look to recruit an inspirational and highly skilled Director with the role being advertised by our recruitment partner FWB, more details can be found here https://www.fwbltd.com/assignment/director/
